RT-PCR
A real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is a laboratory technique of molecular biology based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It monitors the amplification of a targeted DNA molecule during the PCR in real time. RT-PCR is commonly used to measure gene expression.

PCR is one of the most widely used diagnostic tests for detecting pathogens, including viruses, that cause diseases such as Ebola, African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease. Since the COVID-19 virus only contains RNA, RT–PCR is used to detect it.
